CHIVERS FARMS LTD is a private family farming company formed in 1962. It had its earlier origins in Chivers & Sons (of jam and jelly fame), which was sold to Schweppes in 1960. Two members of the family retained a proportion of the original land, setting up a new farming company, which forms the majority of what is farmed today. Today the company is run jointly by second cousins, Caroline and Ben Chivers.
The arable area of approximately 1800 ha is a mix of owned, tenanted and contract farmed land. The soft fruit enterprise produces approximately 400t of strawberries and raspberries, the majority of which is destined for supermarket outlets. Although there is no longer any livestock on the farm the company still operates a retail dairy delivering milk to Cambridge and the surrounding villages. The farming interests have also been diversified over the last ten years by converting redundant farm buildings into office and storage facilities.
